THE DEMANDS OF SECONDARY SCHOOL ENGLISH

Although Secondary 1 English consists of fewer components than primary school English, the questions and requirements are tougher. As such, students need to have a deeper understanding of grammar rules and language skills.

WHAT THIS COURSE IS ABOUT

Our Secondary 1 English Bridging Course aims to introduce students to some of the components of Secondary 1 English so that they can be better prepared for the subject as they embark on their secondary school education. Knowledge is power and preparation is an important key to success. Let your child have a taste of what Secondary 1 English is like and allow him to gain a certain level of confidence before starting his secondary school journey!

In this online course, students will be introduced to the Editing and Continuous Writing components of Secondary 1 English.

Here’s what your child will learn in this course:

• The 10 grammar rules that every Secondary 1 student needs to know to score in the Editing component of Paper 1
• Editing exercises to practise these grammar rules
• The structure and types of essays for Secondary 1 continuous writing

In this online course, students will be introduced to the Visual Text Comprehension and Comprehension components of Secondary 1 English.

Here’s what your child will learn in this course:

• Techniques to answer Visual Text Comprehension questions
• Introduction to narrative and non-narrative Comprehension passages and questions
• Introduction to Summary Writing

All materials will be posted to the mailing address indicated during registration. Participants who register after 16 October will NOT receive the hard copy. A soft copy of the materials will be emailed to you instead.
